How do you get those flowers in there? They aren't flowers. I carve a cavity in the back of the material shaped like a flower and then paint the cavity. How long does it take you to do a piece like that with a hummingbird? A 4x4 flower grouping takes about 30 minutes. The same size image of an animal, bird, or fish would take about 4 hours. What do you call your technique? The technique is called Reverse Intaglio. Intaglio is an Italian word describing a specialized carving technique involving incised images.
